Most Common Questions

Q. What kind of meals do you cook?

We prepare authentic Japanese home-style meals that are commonly enjoyed in everyday households in Japan.
In fact, many of these comforting home-style dishes are rarely found on Japanese restaurant menus in the Bay Area.
In addition to Japanese cuisine, we also prepare Italian, French, Indian, Chinese, and Korean-inspired dishes as part of everyday home cooking in Japan.

Q. What dishes are most commonly requested?

Curry, hamburger steak, and karaage (Japanese fried chicken) are especially popular with families of all backgrounds.
We also receive requests for dishes people enjoyed while traveling in Japan, or meals they have seen in anime or online. We are happy to accommodate requests whenever possible.

Q. Are there any dishes you do not offer?

Yes, there are a few exceptions.
For food safety and hygiene reasons, we do not prepare raw dishes such as sushi, sashimi, or poke.

Q. Who provides the ingredients?

We will send you a shopping list in advance, and we ask that ingredients be prepared before the service date.
If you are busy, we can also take care of grocery shopping for you.
For certain hard-to-find Japanese ingredients, such as specialty seasonings or thinly sliced meats, we may bring them ourselves.

Q. How much food do you prepare?

We prepare meals for the whole family rather than individual portions.
As a general guideline, for a family of four, we typically prepare 3–4 dishes during a 2-hour session, with approximately 4–6 portions per dish. We also tend to prepare slightly generous portions so families can enjoy leftovers for another meal.
Since families often book us to make life easier throughout the week, we generally aim to prepare enough food for about 2–3 days.
Please note that the amount may vary depending on your family's eating habits and the menu selected.
Sometimes clients tell us, “It was so good that nothing was left over!”

Q. Do I need to be home during the service?

For the first visit, we ask that someone be present so we can familiarize ourselves with your kitchen setup and household preferences.
After the initial visit, either being home or away is perfectly fine.
